Who I Am
I’m a Nebula, Hugo, Sturgeon, and Locus Award-nominated author of fantasy and science fiction. My stories have been published in Uncanny Magazine, Lightspeed Magazine, Strange Horizons, and many other venues, and reprinted in various Year’s Best anthologies. My debut middle grade novel, Benny Ramírez and the Nearly Departed, is scheduled for publication from Knopf Books for Young Readers in spring of 2024. My novel-length fiction is represented by Cameron McClure of the Donald Maass Literary Agency.

Embrace the great YMMV
I unfollowed a writer on twitter the other day, in an act of self-preservation. Not a bad guy in any way, but he kept tweeting a sentiment I found artistically damaging. Over the course of several days, he kept tweeting … Continue reading

Pretending to still love them
There’s this weird thing about being a selling writer that is obvious in retrospect, but that I totally didn’t see coming. When I write my stories, I feel varying levels of excitement about each one. But on some level, I … Continue reading

Attack of the Pod People!
The good folks over at the Skiffy and Fanty Show were misguided enough to think I was worth interviewing, so we talked at length about writing, cultures, literature, and the immigrant experience. Give it a listen!
“My Writing Process” Blog Hop
YA writer and dear friend Marlana Antifit tagged me on the writing process blog hop that’s been going around, for which I’m so grateful—I genuinely love being tagged in things like this, and yet I seem somehow to be overlooked … Continue reading

Christmas morning ain’t got nothing on the day I’ve had today. Within the last 24 hours, my first and my second fiction sales have gone live. First came “Cabrón,” in Stupefying Stories‘s second annual horror anthology, Two. (Amazon link) (Barnes … Continue reading

“Aren’t you supposed to hate everything you write?”
August was very good to me. On August 14th, I made my first professional fiction sale, and on the 29th, I followed it up with another short story sale. To say I’m riding kind of high right now would be … Continue reading
